Combolands Save System: Steam Cloud and Run State
Separate confirmed Steam Cloud support from player reports about in-run saves and reloads, so a Combolands recovery plan does not rely on an unverified rule.
Confirmed: Steam Cloud
The official Steam listing includes Steam Cloud alongside single-player, achievements, and Family Sharing. Steam Cloud describes synchronisation for supported game data; it does not automatically mean an interrupted island run can be resumed at the same decision point.
Use two separate questions when troubleshooting:
- Did Steam synchronise the supported files? This is the platform-level question.
- Did the game restore the same run state and offer? This is the in-run behaviour question.
The first answer cannot be used as proof of the second.
Reported: in-run behaviour
Players have reported that there is no in-run save and that reloading can show different building offers. A separate player discussion asks why the selection differs after loading. These reports are valuable because they identify a real recovery problem, but they are not treated here as a universal, version-independent rule.
Do not turn “the offer changed once” into a claim about randomisation, cloud conflict, or an intentional design rule. The observation proves that the two visible offers differed; it does not prove why.
A safer exit and reload checklist
Before relying on a reload:
- note the installed game version;
- capture the current island and the offer or choice on screen;
- wait for the Steam client’s sync indicator to settle;
- avoid launching two conflicting copies of the game;
- after relaunch, record the restored island, offer, score, and any warning;
- keep the before/after screenshots together.
If the run is important, plan as if the current decision may not be recoverable until your installed build confirms otherwise. That is a risk-management recommendation, not a claim that every run is lost.
What would strengthen the evidence?
A useful report repeats the same quit point in the same build, notes whether Steam Cloud was enabled and finished syncing, and compares the visible state after relaunch. Several independent reports with the same conditions would support a stronger community status. An official note or an in-game explanation would be needed to call the behaviour verified official.
Check the updates page for current notes and keep Steam Cloud status separate from an in-run checkpoint. For Steam Deck-specific recovery checks, see Steam Deck.
